Save Barnegat Bay’s statewide fertilizer bill, S-1441 needs your immediate help. It needs to be released from the Senate Budget Committee. Please phone Budget Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo – 201-804-8118…
URGENT – SENATE BUDGET COMMITTEE MUST ACT ON FERTILIZER BILL – A-1411
The all-important lawn fertilizer bill that Save Barnegat Bay has been working on for three years, S-1411, needs to be voted in the Senate Budget Committee this Monday, December 6 or Wednesday, December 8. If it is not, the bill will be threatened with major delays and possible gutting by Scotts Miracle-Gro’s lobbyists.
In order for the bill to receive timely passage, Senator Paul Sarlo, the Chairman of the Budget Committee must put S-1411 on the Budget Committee schedule for this Monday.
PLEASE PHONE the office of Senator Sarlo:
You may leave a message on a machine or with the staff. It is not necessary to speak with Senator Sarlo unless you know him personally.
Please request of Senator Sarlo that he:
(1) Put S-1411 – the lawn fertilizer bill – on the Budget Committee Agenda for Monday, December 6 or Wednesday December 8
(2) Support the amendments of the bill’s sponsor (Senator Bob Smith), and
(3) Release the bill for a vote by the full Senate.
Phone anytime of day or night between now and 1PM Wednesday. You do not need to live in New Jersey in order contact Senator Sarlo. Since this bill – if it becomes law – will likely become the model for all the other states, you have a stake in this matter no matter where you live in the United States. Because this bill addresses both nitrogen and phosphorus, all salt and fresh water bays, lakes, and rivers are vitally affected.
Email is a less desirable form of communication, but if you cannot phone the Senator, please do email him via the state’s website:
(Select: ENVIRONMENT – AIR NOISE AND WATER POLLUTION)
Scotts Miracle-Gro has hired the lobbying firm of former Senator Robert Torricelli to try to water down the sponsor’s bill. Environmentalists have had to compromise many features in order to get this far. Enough is enough. It is time for the legislature to act.
Save Barnegat Bay apologizes for the suddenness of this request; things happen suddenly in the legislative process in Trenton.
PLEASE MAKE THIS MESSAGE VIRAL. POST IT AND FORWARD IT EVERYWHERE.
