Please write the Ocean County Freeholders and urge them to purchase Traders Cove and make it a jewel of the County Park system.

Traders Cove is approximately ten acres of waterfront property at the northwest foot of the Mantoloking Bridge in Brick. 52 luxury condos, a restaurant, and a marina are currently proposed, but are contested by Save Barnegat Bay.

The area is threatened with development, and would make an ideal waterfront park for many reasons:

1 – There are very few places in northern Ocean County (and throughout Barnegat) in which boats can be launched by the public onto Barnegat Bay.

2 – Traders Cove is ideal for crabbing and fishing.

3 – Traders Cove would make an ideal picnic area.

4 – Traders Cove is immediately adjacent to a National Wildlife Refuge with wonderful pre-existing walking trails. Traders Cove could be used as the starting point for the trails, and as an interpretive nature center.

5 – Traders Cove would make a magnificent home for exhibits or institutions celebrating Ocean County’s maritime culture, and for outdoor theater.

6 – The would-be developer of Traders Cove reportedly paid less than three million dollars for this site. If you consider the amounts of money the County spends on building roads, four or five million dollars for a needed, magnificent County Park is not too much to ask.

Please act now to prevent Barnegat Bay from being walled off from the public by high-density, polluting waterfront developments.
