A public contracting bill, A427, will prevent businesses who do business with the state from making “Pay to Play” political contributions. The environment and taxpayers would win big. Phone Governor McGreevey and tell him to honor his pledge of support. 609-292-6000
Assembly Bill A427, sponsored by Tom Kean Jr., and co-sponsored by Ocean County Assemblymen Jeff Moran and Chris Connors, is well crafted legislation designed to combat “pay-to-play”, the all too common practice in which large political contributions are traded for lucrative state government contracts.
When running for office, Jim McGreevey endorsed this exact piece of legislation. This bill has passed the state Senate overwhelmingly; now it is stalled in the Assembly.
Please urge Governor McGreevey to get the Democratic controlled Assembly to pass this bill so that he can sign it. Once this reform is enacted, the Governor can be a leader for additional reforms – rather than sabotaging this bill by attaching additional reforms to it.

New Jersey’s environmental can only be saved when votes start counting more than money. A-427 is a solid first step.
