A Victory: Dover Purchases “Home Depot” Site

Dover Township has purchased for conservation the 43 acre wooded site on Fischer Blvd once eyed by Home Depot.

Save Barnegat Bay was instrumental in this victory. We teamed with local citizens led by Frank Kenny – a dedicated citizen of Toms River and a Director of Save Barnegat Bay – to get 1400 acres rezoned to one unit of housing per three acres.

We are especially grateful to our attorney Michele R. Donato, without whose expertise and persistence the rezoning of the 1400 acres might never have been achieved.

It is our hope that other undeveloped tracts in the area around Fischer Boulevard, Hooper Avenue, and Ocean County College will be purchased for conservation and left natural.

Save Barnegagt Bay opposes putting and roads through these woods for the purpose of cutting the corner between Hooper Avenue and Fischer Blvd.
