A Big THANK YOU to Reedy Creek Cleanup Volunteers

On Saturday, Nov. 15, twenty-four enthusiastic All Stars upheld SBB’s tradition of over 15 years of hauling trash out of the Reedy Creek woods. Read about it in the Observer.

A BIG THANK YOUto the twenty-four volunteers who turned out on Saturday, November 15, to assist in hauling trash out of the Reedy Creek woods in Brick Township. The weather was sunny, and the format was casual. We are still finding plenty of garbage, although it is not as abundant as it was fifteen years ago when we started this annual ritual. Read about it in the Observer.

Special thanks to Brick Township and to Jack Nydam of the Brick Township Department of Public Works for providing the dumpster – we could not do it without you.

Special thanks also to Jim Merrit for volunteering his van to haul material out to the dumpster. And thanks to Keavy Franzoni of Atlantic Plants for providing the same service as a followup on Sunday with her front end loader.

This event was covered by the Ocean County Observer’s Michele Maskaly and photographer Doug Hood. Thank you! (And good luck Michele in your future journalistic endeavors in Middlesex County!)

SBB’s cleanups assist the managers of the Forsythe Refuge and thereby strenghen the process of land acquisition at Reedy Creek. See Map

Future cleanups: Our next cleanup will be at the Lavallette Bay Beach on a Saturday morning in early May. We are also contemplating a springtime cleanup of the Herring Point section of the Forsythe Refuge, near Traders Cove in Brick Township. The next Reedy Creek cleanup will be in the fall of 2004. Keep an eye on the SBB calendar on our homepage for the dates of these cleanups and for the dates of Clean Ocean Action’s spring and fall Beach Sweeps.

These events are highly informal and open to the public.
