To Whom this Does Concern…

From time to time Save Barnegat Bay’s appeals are met not only with generous monetary responses but also with eloquent thoughts. Many are contemplations upon the indifference with which those who possess power too often disregard both persons without it and nature. Here is one such letter.

To Whom this Does Concern
Re: State allowing development near threatened waterways

How can this happen? I truly believed that the State would do everything in its power to save our beautiful Bay. The Powers that be have put money before nature’s work of Art. I do not have the power that is money. Along with so many, I must just look out at the bay – there will be no more jumping into the waters, watching my Grandchildren laughing and splashing each other. Now, after a summer of being stung repeatedly by “jelly fish”, they are too afraid to even put their toes in the water.

I know that the people who live here are very responsible. So many of us take part in the cleanup each spring and fall. But it is not enough. Is there anything more we can do? We need another David to kill Goliath – the State—before it is too late.

I love watching our beautiful sunsets each evening. I love walking at the beach early in the morning as the sun is coming up. Thank goodness this wonder cannot be taken from us.

If there is anything I can do, i.e., lick envelopes, I will do it willingly. Unfortunately, being a senior citizen, there is nothing I can do in a monetary way. I just want my Grandchildren to be able to enjoy the wonders of Barnegat Bay as I have for the past 65 years.

Thank all of you for your hard work. I know you feel the disappointment I feel.

Sincerely,

Barbara Dulsi
