Field Trips to the Barnegat Bay EcoCenter

Step into our Rivertime Classroom amphitheater, where outdoor education comes to life! Your group can choose from age-appropriate activities like seining in the Toms River, exploring freshwater macroinvertebrates in the creek, nature walks through the magical woods, watershed talks, and more!

Professional Development for Educators

Looking to enhance your Barnegat Bay and climate change education skills? We offer multiple professional development opportunities that boost your confidence in teaching these topics. Upon completion, you’ll be invited to join the Save Barnegat Bay Educators Network, where you can collaborate with other educators, develop lesson plans, and stay connected with like-minded professionals.

Sedge Island Getaway

Join us for a completely immersive overnight adventure in the middle of Barnegat Bay for educators to complete professional development.

Project WET and Climate Resilience 

Save Barnegat Bay is a local curriculum facilitator for Project WET. We can host professional development workshops for you and your educators using these resources.

Project SEA

Through a partnership with faculty at TCNJ, we have developed turn key lesson plans that are aligned with NGSS and NJ climate education standards. 

Climate Learning Collaborative

Through a partnership with Stockton University, we are offering professional development using place based climate education workshops to help South Jersey educators and beyond.

Browns Woods Pirate Raid

Looking for a thrilling new adventure? Save Barnegat Bay’s Pirate Environmental Scavenger Hunt is based at Browns Woods on the north shore of the Toms River. Meet Pirate Pearl and her crew as you explore this fun and educational program! Suitable for all ages and group sizes, this experience can be adapted for younger or older students. EcoCenter Programs

Looking for a peaceful getaway? Our 40-acre woods are open sunrise to sunset for nature walks, bird watching, or just relaxing on our river beach. The EcoCenter office is open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Stop by to learn more about Barnegat Bay, explore our mini educational displays, or—if staff is available—get a guided tour! We also host educational programs year-round. Stay tuned to our website for the latest events!

STEAM Summer Series

Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Summer Series is an environmental education adventure! Each year, we offer 2-hour programs for kids ages 5–15 in Bay Head, Mantoloking, and Point Pleasant Beach. Participants dive into the bay, visit local aquariums and museums, meet professionals in the field, and engage in hands-on problem-solving. Alexandra Sellitsch

Alex is 27 years old and is an aspiring marine biologist who is finishing up her junior year at Stockton University. Growing up by the beach has made a significant impact on Alex’s life, which has influenced her passion for the ocean. She is an advocate for elasmobranch conservation, and enjoys getting her hands dirty in research. Alex is currently an intern with Barnegat Bay, researching pathogen influences in the bay’s water. She is also an active intern partnering with one of her professors, who is researching dual seagrass habitats in the Mullica River-Great Bay Estuary. In her spare time, Alex enjoys spending time at the beach and teaching herserself new hobbies. Hobbies that include roller skating, and surfing. Alex is also volunteering with the Berkeley Township Underwater Search and Rescue Team, and is in the process of obtaining her SCUBA certification.
