STEAM Summer Series Job Descriptions 2025

Join Save Barnegat Bay this summer at our STEAM Summer Series. Throughout this program we will be creating experiences throughout the watershed while inviting scientists, guest presenters, and field trips to empower children ages 5-15. Most lessons will take place outdoors, in and around the Barnegat Bay and Ocean. This hands-on immersive experience will be a chance for young people to connect science, technology, engineering, art, and math with their local environment and neighborhoods while learning about future career opportunities and ways to get involved.

Teacher Position

Teachers must be able to speak clearly to multiple ages and audiences as well as help children throughout the program. Educators in this position must be confident leading content programming after receiving training and literature. Applicants preferred who are able to adapt and think on their feet. Teachers in this position will be executing STEAM programming alongside the Education Staff at Save Barnegat Bay.

  • This position is paid part-time
  • Applicants must be available for most scheduled programs
    • 8am to 6pm between July 5 and Aug 23, 2025
    • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Experience working with children is strongly preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Skills include confident leading and public speaking

Teacher Assistant Position

  • This position is paid part-time
  • Applicants must be available for most scheduled programs
    • 8am to 6pm between July 5 and Aug 23, 2025
    • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Experience working with children is strongly preferred 

Educators in this position must be confident assisting leaders through content programming after receiving training and literature. Applicants preferred who are able to adapt and think on their feet. Assistant teachers in this position will be executing STEAM programming alongside the Education Staff and STEAM Series Teachers at Save Barnegat Bay. Must have reliable transportation.

Alexandra Sellitsch

Alex is 27 years old and is an aspiring marine biologist who is finishing up her junior year at Stockton University. Growing up by the beach has made a significant impact on Alex’s life, which has influenced her passion for the ocean. She is an advocate for elasmobranch conservation, and enjoys getting her hands dirty in research. Alex is currently an intern with Barnegat Bay, researching pathogen influences in the bay’s water. She is also an active intern partnering with one of her professors, who is researching dual seagrass habitats in the Mullica River-Great Bay Estuary. In her spare time, Alex enjoys spending time at the beach and teaching herserself new hobbies. Hobbies that include roller skating, and surfing. Alex is also volunteering with the Berkeley Township Underwater Search and Rescue Team, and is in the process of obtaining her SCUBA certification.
