Stop the Sting – Scrubbing Information Session

July 19, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Want to learn more about what came out of all that bulkhead scrubbing that started four years ago?

Join Save Barnegat Bay, Berkeley Township Underwater Search and Rescue (BTUSAR), Dr. Paul Bologna & Dr. John Wnek to dive deeper into the Stop the Sting Initiative. Our team has worked tirelessly over the last four years to scrub thousands of feet of bulkheading, all while studying water quality and jellyfish populations in three different lagoon communities. We are so excited to finally be able to share these amazing results with you all as a full team, together in the town where we all began, BERKELEY SHORES.

On July 19th our lead Jellyfish Scientist, Dr. Paul Bologna, will present his findings on how effective bulkhead scrubbing can be to curb jellyfish populations. You will also get to hear from the Dive Team who was out in the fall and spring seasons doing the scrubbing, and read the reports of student scientists who conducted water quality monitoring in your lagoons for three summers. We will also be proudly presenting scrubbing certificates to all homeowners who participated in the the Stop the Sting Initiative and who allowed students to monitor water quality from their backyards, we truly could not have done this without you!.

We need to give a special thank you to Berkeley Shores Civic Association and Berkeley Town Council who were interregnal in the success of this project. We cannot thank you all enough for hosting us, inviting us to speak, sharing our work and participating in this important study, not just now, but from the very beginning!

If you have any questions or would like more information please email our Jellyfish Education Coordinator, Brittany at her new email: assistant@savebarnegatbay.org
