We’re Hiring: Science & Education Program Manager

Join the Team at Save Barnegat Bay

At Save Barnegat Bay, we believe that protecting the future of Barnegat Bay begins with connecting people to science, place, and community.

That’s why we are excited to announce that we are hiring a full-time Science & Education Program Manager to help grow and strengthen our expanding environmental science, watershed education, and community engagement initiatives.

For more than 55 years, Save Barnegat Bay has worked to give the Bay a voice through science, advocacy, education, and public engagement. As environmental challenges continue to impact our coastal communities — from flooding and stormwater issues to habitat loss and declining water quality — we believe that hands-on education and community leadership are more important than ever.

This new position comes at an exciting time for the organization as we continue building long-term programs, stronger systems, and place-based learning opportunities centered around our EcoCenter campus in Toms River.

The Science & Education Program Manager will play an important role in helping coordinate and expand a wide range of initiatives, including environmental education programs, field experiences, citizen science efforts, watershed leadership initiatives, volunteer engagement, and seasonal outreach activities throughout the region. The position blends environmental science, field and laboratory work, education, science communication, and community engagement into one dynamic and highly collaborative role.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about coastal ecosystems and excited to help translate science into meaningful public understanding and action. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, comfortable working outdoors, and enjoys engaging with students, volunteers, municipalities, and community members alike.

The role will support several of SBB’s growing flagship initiatives, including the EcoCenter Learning Lab and the Charting a Course: Watershed Leadership Program, while also helping advance citizen science, monitoring, and community watershed education efforts. Responsibilities include assisting with water quality monitoring and environmental sampling, supporting educational programming and EcoCenter operations, helping coordinate volunteers and field activities, and contributing to outreach, presentations, and program development.

Candidates should have a background in environmental science, marine science, biology, ecology, environmental education, or a related field, along with strong communication and organizational skills. Experience with environmental education, field research, water quality monitoring, GIS, citizen science, or working with students and volunteers is highly valued.

The position offers a starting salary range of approximately $50,000–$60,000 depending on experience, along with health insurance contributions, retirement benefits, professional development opportunities, and a flexible, mission-driven work environment.

If you are passionate about environmental protection, education, and helping build stronger coastal communities, we encourage you to apply.
